Location
The Oyster Bay is located in the centre of the Oyster Bay area of Dar es Salaam facing the ocean on Toure Drive. It is a fifteen minute drive from the centre of the city and thirty minutes from the airports (domestic and international) depending on the traffic.

Climate
Dar es Salaam is located on the East Coast of Africa 6 degrees south of the Equator. It has an equatorial climate and high humidity and can get quite steamy. The rainy seasons of March to May and November/December can bring dramatic torrential rain, but it is usually of short duration followed by brilliant sunshine.

Accommodation
The Oyster Bay has eight spacious ocean facing suites with balconies situated on three floors. There is no lift but the view from the upper levels is certainly worth the exertion of getting there - and of course the ocean breezes are stronger the higher you go. All suites are air conditioned, but also have louvred shutters and cross ventilation for those who do not wish to sleep in air-conditioning. The suites are furnished with either king sized or twin beds and have lounge furnishing as well as writing desks and plasma screen televisions. The ensuite bathrooms are open plan and contain a free-standing bath, walk through shower and enclosed toilet facility.

The Ground Floor
Furnished in the style of a private house with modern contemporary African décor, the lounges and dining areas flow out on to a covered verandah and to a gazebo to enjoy the space and contemporary designed garden. There is a study with internet access. All areas are air conditioned for the hotter more humid months, but also have lots of French doors to allow for cooling by 'tropical breeze'.

Meals are served on the verandah, in the dining area and on the pool deck depending on time of day and weather conditions.

Transportation
The Oyster Bay has its own fleet of chauffeur driven vehicles that collect guests from the port or airport and returns them to the airport for their onward flight. The cost of this service may be included in the hotel rate.

Electricity
The hotel is connected to the main supply but also has it's own generator supply giving 240v 50hz electricity should there be any interruption of service. We use standard three pin plugs with square pins as in the UK, but international adapters are available in each room.

Water
The water used in the hotel comes from the mains supply - but guests are advised not to drink it. There are ample supplies of bottled drinking water in both the main areas and the suites.

Communications
The hotel only has internal telecommunications and guests would be reliant upon their own mobile phones for external and international communications. Local calls can be facilitated if required. The hotel has WiFi technology so guests are able to connect to the internet with their own equipment or to use the hotel connection in the Study.

Swimming Pool
There is a fifteen-meter lap pool in the garden and a combination of pool decks and sun bathing and shady areas.

The Oyster Bay Experience
The Oyster Bay is purely designed for travellers who are passing through Dar es Salaam, whether for a few hours or for overnight. The experience starts at the port or airport and ends by delivering the guest back to the port or airport. The experience is a totally fully inclusive package of transfers, accommodation, meals and drinks.

Children
The Oyster Bay welcomes children and we have a small number of extra 'fold up' beds to allow a child to stay in the same suite as the parents. There are two separate floors containing a double and a twin-bedded room that, whilst not adjoining, would be suitable for a 'family' giving total privacy. There are facilities for children who would no doubt enjoy the lap pool and extensive gardens and there is also the internet connection in the Study. Meals are not a problem as children can eat what they want, when they want.

Laundry
As the majority of our guests are staying for only a brief stay it will not be possible to have clothes laundered and returned before departure. However we will willingly press clothes or cope with an 'emergency' situation to the best of our abilities.

Special Occasions
Great care and pride will be taken in organising a special occasion or event during a stay at The Oyster Bay. We can provide the right atmosphere and menu for a birthday, anniversary, special dinner or lunch.

Hospitality
The resident 'family' of managers and staff are there to make sure that each guest enjoys the Oyster Bay experience to the full. It is designed to be a 'home' in the city rather than a hotel and to replicate the feeling of staying with 'friends'. Guests who feel at home will find that their short stay in Dar es Salaam is as equally memorable as the rest of their holiday in East Africa.

The Oyster Bay is open all year round.
